Hi-Artz Press

I began letterpress printing in 2002 after I bought a load of equipment including an Adana 8×5 and an HS2 from an old chap in Dunstable after seeing an advert in the local paper.  After handing over 100 notes and asking him what to do, he said “Oh you’ll work it out!” which was what I did after talking to lots of grumpy old men and some nice ones!  Fortunately now, the old men seem to be less grumpy – possibly because my comping and printing skills are a lot better than they were!  I gradually added to my collection and found out as much as I could about letterpress, joined the British Printing Society and took myself off to Nashville to do a short internship with Hatch Showprint in 2004.

I now have a fully equipped workshop with plant that includes a Vandercook no4 and a Cropper Charlton platen press.  I teach letterpress to art and design students at Central St Martins, London Metropolitan and University of Bedfordshire.
